Richard Povall

     Richard Povall was born circa 1709/10 Virginia. He was the son of John Povall and Elizabeth Woodson. Richard and (--?--) (--?--) were married circa 1735/36. Richard and Tabitha Hudspeth were married 16 October 1751 Cumberland County, Virginia, Oct. 16, 1751, Richard Povall & Tabitha Hudspeth, spinster. Sec.

Childrey, Mary Childrey.² Richard Povall died between 6 January 1771 and 22 July 1771, Cumberland County, Virginia.
     He left a will on 6 January 1771 Cumberland County, Virginia,

The heirs in Richard's will are divided up with some receiving "due" and others something else:

Tabitha, besides the property:
"five negro slaves viz. old Toney, old Sue, Will, Ned & Nimrod (to be divided between three sons: John, Charles, Richard & their heirs forever.)
Daughter Betty Howlett, two negroe slaves iz Moll & her increase from this date; & Little Sue which she is now posesst with.
Daughter Mary (no last name) three negroes viz Roger, Philis, * Clarasse [&] future increase also one feather bed & furniture, one womans side saddle & furniture to her and her heirs forever, to be paid her when she shall arrive to the age of eighteen or married.
Daughter Ann, two negroes viz. Jacob & Amy and their increase also one feather bed & furniture, one womans side saddle and furniture to her & her heirs forever, to be paid her when shall arrive to the age of eighteen or married.
Daughter Patty two negroes viz. Tom & Nell and their increase also one feather bed & furniture, one womans side saddle and furniture to her & her heirs forever, to be paid her when shall arrive to the age of eighteen or married.
Daughter Susanna two negroes viz. Joe & Cate and their increase also one feather bed & furniture, one womans side saddle and furniture to her & her heirs forever, to be paid her when shall arrive to the age of eighteen or married.
Daughter Judah two negroes viz. Robin & Nann and their increase also one feather bed & furniture, one womans side saddle and furniture to her & her heirs forever, to be paid her when shall arrive to the age of eighteen or married.
Son John: all that part of my land...also five negroe slaves viz. Peter, Abram, Siss, * Fanny & Jack, & their increase, also my desk, [....] sett of pistols & holsters, one feather bed & furniture & six leather chairs to him and to his heirs forever.
Son Charles: part of land purchased of William Hudspeth where Benj Childrey kept ordinary containing five hundred acres more or less, five negroe slaves viz Pault? Sam Charles Doll and Hannah & their increase, one feather bed * furniture & six leather chairs to him & his heirs forever.
Son Richard (part of land from Wm Hudspeth as above, 400 acres) six negroe slaves viz Edmund, Juda & her four children, Ben, Silva, Sharlott & Barsheba & their future increase, one feather bed...
Tabitha to keep the rest during her widowhood.
When she remarries or dies, all the horses, cattle and sheep and everything else not already given away to divided between wife (if living) & three sone John, Charles, & Richard.
If either of the daughters should die before marriage their part be equally divided between the survivors of my single daughters...
Wife's negroes and sons negroes be kept together by the direction of my exors till all my just debts are paid.
If either of sons should die before they come of age (except they marry) their part of the estate be equally divided between surviving sons.
"As for my daughters Rachel Clay & Sarah Hobson I have given them all the estate that I intend for them, I desire they may not comein hereafter for any part of my estate."
