John Clay was born in 1717/18 Chesterfield County, Virginia.2 He was the son of Henry Clay and Mary Mitchell.2 John and Sarah Watkins were married circa 1741 Goochland County, Virginia. John and Mary Bass, daughter of William Bass and Martha Clay, were married circa 1759. John Clay died between 1761 and 1762.
