#616, b. before 1767, d. 9 July 1836
Father*William Graves b. c 1723/24, d. b 6 Dec 1809
Mother*Dorothy Smith[?]
Peyton Graves was born before 1767 Caroline County, Virginia. age 70-79 in 1830, born 1750-1760.1,2,3 He was the son of William Graves and Dorothy Smith[?]. Peyton and Charlotte Pinckard, daughter of John Pinckard and Jane Jett, were married 14 November 1788 Franklin County, Virginia.4 A marriage bond was executed for Peyton and Charlotte Pinckard dated on 11 November 1788. This is likely the date of the marriage bond, while the marriage took place a few days later.2 Peyton Graves died 9 July 1836, in Pigg River, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, How was he on the 1840 census if he was deceased. Is this the same Peyton?
There are two in the household, each between 70 and 79.

Hiden quotes the "late Gen. John Card Graves, 'he died on Pigg River at the age of 81 or 82 years."

She also notes (no source) that he lived at Pigg River and Frying Pan Creek from 1800 to 1836 "but the records contain no reference to his death."

So, where did the "1836" come from?1,2,5
He GRAVES, Peyton Graves, of Pittsylvania co., Va., married Charlotte Pinkard, and they had nine children. Jane, the eldest, married Thomas Jefferson, a nephew of President Jefferson. William, John and Washington, sons of Peyton Graves, came to Mo. and settled in Montgomery co. William married Lucy Berger. John married Mildred George. Washington married Melcina Berger. The rest of Peyton Graves' children, with the exception of one, lived and died in Virginia.

I have copied mis-spellings exactly as they occured in the deed.

No witnesses appear on the copy of the deed that I have, but obviously it was executed anyway.

The James Graves and the Francis Graves mentioned in the deed were brothers. Their father Peyton Graves had a total of nine children who reached maturity all of whom married and had children.
