Alexander Bruce was born on 13 April 1797 Garrard County, Kentucky. He was the son of John Bruce and Elizabeth Clay. Alexander and Amanda Malvina Fitzalan Bragg were married 18 February 1819 Lewis County, Kentucky.1 Alexander Bruce died 1851, in Vanceburg, Kentucky at age 53 years.

John Bruce, an early pioneer, settled in Garrard County, Kentucky,
and was a Revolutionary soldier. His son, Alexander Bruce, was born on
September 5, 1795. Was educated at Transylvania College, Lexington,
Kentucky, and married Amanda Bragg, daughter of Thomas Bragg, a
Revolutionary soldier, of Fauquer [sic] County, Virginia. This John Bruce
probably married Elizabeth, daughter of Dr. Henry and Rachel Porall (sic) Clay,
of Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Rachel Clay was born January 13, 1739.
Dr. Henry was born in 1736, died in Bourbon County, January 17, 1820. His
first wife, Rachel, died April 27, 1820, age 81 years.
