     Hiram Clare Palmer was born on 4 February 1895  Montgomery County, Missouri.1 He was the son of Charles Fountain Palmer and Nancy Elizabeth Clare.1 Hiram and Nelle Edgar Scanland were married 14 June 1919  Montgomery City, Montgomery County, Missouri.2 Hiram Clare Palmer died 1 April 1996, Knox County, Missouri at age 101 years, 1 month and 28 days.1

Hiram Clare Palmer, 101, of Novelty, Missouri, died Monday, April 1, 1996, at the Grim-Smith Hospital, Kirksville, Missouri.
Mr. Palmer was born February 4, 1895, at Montgomery City, Missouri, the son of Charles Fountain and Nancy Elizabeth Clare Palmer.
On June 19, 1919, at Montgomery City, Missouri, he married Nell Edgar Scanland and she preceded him in death on September 25, 1956.
On April 5, 1964, he married Adaline Snyder Slaughter at the Mt. Salem Church, north of Plevna, Missouri, and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dwyane (Eleanor Sue) Blakney, Carson City, Nevada; one son, William Scanland Palmer, Novelty, Missouri; four sisters, Margaret Dunham, Lilian Palmer, Jeannett Palmer and Dorothy Palmer, all of Columbia, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one step-daughter; one step-granddaughter and two step-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Hiram C. Palmer, Jr. on December 6, 1948; two daughters, Zelma Jean Palmer on September 13, 1950 and Virginia Poehlman on February 2, 1996; two brothers, Charles H. Palmer and George M. Palmer; one grandson, Charles William Poehlman and one step-son, James Slaughter.
Mr. Palmer was reared at Montgomery City, Missouri, where he graduated from high school in 1912. Following his graduation, he and a cousin operated a dairy at St. Louis, Missouri, until 1916. He later moved to Good Rich, Idaho, where he homesteaded a 640 acre farm. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, from 1917-1919.
He was engaged in farming in the Montgomery City area until 1939, when he and his family moved to a farm east of Novelty, Missouri.
He semi-retired from farming several years ago during which he and his wife traveled extensively. In 1947 he became interested in flying and became a licensed pilot and owned his own plane. He was a charter member of the Missouri Flying Farmers and was the oldest flying farmer.
He was a charter member of the American Legion Post at Montgomery City, Missouri. He was also a charter member of the Darrel L. Knauer American Legion Post #574 at Plevna, Missouri.
Mr. Palmer was a member of the Bethel Masonic Lodge of Bethel, Missouri, and the Mt. Salem Church, north of Plevna, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 4, 1996, at the Mr. Salem Church, north of Plevna, Missouri with Reverend Mike Stevens, Reverend Dan Pritchard and Reverend Rod Webster officiating.
Music was provided by Robert and Elizabeth Poore.
Burial was in the Mt. Salem Cemetery, north of Plevna, Missouri with military rites by the U.S. Marine Corps of St. Louis, Missouri, assisted by other local military organizations.3
