     Catherine Rainey Berger was born on 9 March 1825 Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Jacob Berger and Catherine Nowlin. Catherine and James Hurt McHaney were married 19 September 1842 Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Catherine and Booker Smith Jefferson were married 3 August 1858 Montgomery County, Missouri. Catherine Rainey Berger died 5 January 1892, in Troy, Missouri at age 66 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Lincoln Co., MO - Last Tues. (Jan 5) Mrs. Rainey Catharine Jefferson, wife of Booker Jefferson, at the res of Omar Avery, age 67 years, of paralysis. Brought to Montgomery City for burial in City Cemetery. (Jan 15, 1892)

We clip from the Troy Free Press the following notice of the late Mrs. Jefferson whose death we announced last week. She was the youngest and last surviving child of Jacob and Catherine Berger. Born in Pittsylvania Co., VA and on Sep 27, 1842 she was married to Jas. H. McHaney, with whom she moved to Tenn, then to MO, to Montgomery Co. He died , and her second marriage was Aug 3, 1858 to Booker S. Jefferson. They moved to Kansas and that was her home at her death. She was visiting with her children in Troy at her death. Aunt of Dr. Graves of this City, and stepmother of the Doctors wife. (Jan 22, 1892.)
