William B Culver -- 1852
(source: W. J. Culver, Salem, Oregon, 1926)
William B Culver was born at Athens, Ohio, April 24, 1823, and died near Salem, Oregon on September 14, 1890, aged 67 years. He was one of the pioneers who chose the Panama Canal route to the Pacific Coast, rather than the trip across the plains via the covered wagon.

He arrived in California in 1852 and worked for a while in the gold mines and then found his way to the Willamette Valley in Oregon, where he settled in Marion county, six miles east of Salem.

Mr. Culver was a man of much ability, always keenly interested in affairs of state. He served one term in the Oregon legislature in 1886. He was a mason and a staunch republican as to politics. He was married to Louisa J. Glover, daughter of Philip Glover, Sr., a pioneer of 1849. Mrs. Culver was a member of the Evangelical church. She died May 24, 1903.
Three children blessed the union of William Culver and his wife, Louisa, namely:
W. J. Culver, county engineer of Marion county, who married Stella C. Sherman.
Lovenia L., who married Rev. E. Maurer of the Evangelical church.
Rev. F. B. Culver, who married Trena Hansen.4
