FORMER LEBANON RESIDENT DIES IN THE METROPOLIS
Another of Oregon’s pioneers, Monroe Cleaver, 81, died Friday in Portland. Mr. Cleaver was born in Jersey county, Illinois, and in the year 1848 his family left for Oregon. Upon the establishment of the town of Mount Angel, Mr. Cleaver became its first postmaster, which position he held for 11 years. During the same period he was engaged in the grain business. In the year 1895 he removed to Lebanon, where he resided until the fall of 1910 when he went to Portland, where he lived until his death. Mr. Cleaver is survived by his widow, and four children, Marion G. Cleaver, Mrs. E. E. Bosworth and Mrs. C. S. Brown all of Portland, and Mrs. W. B. Lane of San Francisco, Cal., and one sister, Mrs. Irene Strong of Palermo, Cal.
