The information here comes from:

"Meacon Ashley Shelton, son of Crispin and Susannah Irby Shelton, was born July 7, 1797. He wed twice, first to Anna R. Evans in Halifax County on December 7, l824.
and second to Anna Burger on June 1, 1826, his first wife haying died March 4 that year, having had Charles Crispin Shelton sixteen days earlier. Meacon Ashley and Anna Berger Shelton had 8 children: Susannah Catherine, who wed her cousin, Peachy Gilmer Shelton; Martha Irby Shelton, who wed Thomas F. Wells and had Thomas Wells; Jacob Berger Shelton, who wed Eveline J. Dutton and had Jacob, Cooper, Charles, Sue, Pattie and Josephine; Abraham Cowper Shelton; Chloe Elizabeth Shelton, who wed Alexander Machette and had Annie and Ettie; Christiana Mildred Shelton, born l842, who died in 1848; Mary Leigh Shelton, who wed Thomas W. Sample and had Anna, Baylor, Muscoe, Nathaniel M., Will, Robert and Virginia Sample; Nathaniel Meacon Shelton, who wed Belle T. Carges and had Mable O., Charles W., and Anna Elizabeth Shelton."

In the 1850 census of District 61, Montgomery County, Missouri, Washington Graves has in his household children David, Lucy and James, as well as Abram C. Shelton, 15, Elizabeth Shelton, 9, and Thomas Graves, 13, the three born in Virginia. The Shelton children probably cousins, and were thought to be from Meacon and Anna (Berger) Shelton. However, we find Meacon and all children present. It is possible that Abram was helping out and got put on two censuses, but who was Elizabeth?

Thomas Graves was the youngest son of Washington's brother, William and his wife Lucy, who was also Mildred Berger's sister.

At the next farm, Lucy (Wade) Berger lives with her children, Mary, 6, Daniel, 4, William, 8/12, and sister Polly L Wade, 27. Lucy is the wife of James Nowlin Berger, however he is not on the census in this household. Next door again is David W Nowland (Nowlin), the then 38 year old school teacher who taught most of these children. He is with his wife, Elizabeth and eight children. Elizabeth is another of the Berger sisters. Whew!
