     James Jefferson was born on 7 July 1849  Boone County, Missouri.  he was 4/12 when the census was taken 10 October 1850. 
He is buried with his mother, Mary Ann "Polly" Palmer Jefferson, with a common headstone that reads
"James W Jefferson, born July 7, 1849, died Aug 14, 1908.
The 1900 census has "July 1850."
Perhaps the "effective" date of the census was earlier?1,2,3 He was the son of James Jefferson and Mary Ann Palmer.1 James Jefferson died 14 August 1908 at age 59 years, 1 month and 7 days, He did not work the twelve months prior to the 1900 census, although he was listed as "farmer." The farm schedule reference has his information, marked out, and the identical informaiton entered for his mother.2,3
